Location, area:

　　The country, located in northeast of Taiwan, is the end of south in I-lan. It is located between 121 east longitude and 24 degree latitude. For east direction it is boundary line 9 in province road and Dongao neighborhood、Nan-qiang neighborhood、Chao-yang neighborhood of Su-ao town, facing the Pacific Ocean. For south He-ping stream（Da-Zhuo-Shui stream）and Xiu-lin township in Hua-Lian county is the boundary of the country. On the north of the country where is neighbors on Su-ao town、Dong-shan township and the country ,facing Nan-hu big mountain,is the boundary with Da-tong township.

　　“Nanao” is located in the south of “Suao”, permanently, so everyone all call the place by the name. “Nan-ao” is consist of many streams and high mountains, Dongao stream、Da-nan-ao stream, He-ping stream（Da-Zhuo-Shui stream）,and Da-yuan-shan（an altitude of 1,489meters）、Shi-liu-fen-shan（an altitude of1,817meters）、San-xing-shan（an altitude of 2,551 meters）、Nan-hu- bei- shan（an altitude of 3,535 meters）、Nan-hu big mountain（an altitude of 3,740 meters）.

　　Therefore, dividing the area according the area of resident and landforms, it is original place of Atayal Tribe in na-ao. The delta plain is formed by the outlet of the river and the lower river, Dong-ao stream, Danan stream, He-ping stream （Da-Zhuo- Shui stream）.

　　It's also the immigratory place of Atayal Tribe and a place where people live by the Han people, the aboriginal of I-lan, Pingpu tribes. The people, immigrating into Nan-ao, the Han people, the aboriginal of I-lan, Pingpu tribes, Japanese, foreigners, paid much effort, assarted forest, built road to create what we have now. Opening the road means more groups of people are anticipating Nanao; involving of politics means Atayal Tribe not only respect the power of natural but also make a choose between natural environment and the development of the city in the future. Until the highway, Suhua highway, and north line railway was opened to vehicular traffic, Nanao really have changed but it still the biggest area in I-lan (740.65 square kilometer), the population density of five people per square kilometer (least population density). Moreover, there are abundant natural resources and the town is also has the most development potential.
